Evaluation- Question 7
What do you feel you have learnt in the progression from the school magazine (preliminary task), to creating your music magazine?
During the progression of creating my magazine, I done a lot of research and practice to help me create the most professional magazine that I can. I have researched into what would make my magazine suitable for my target audience, using surveys created on 'Survey Monkey', which has helped me gain skills and knowledge. I have also analysed previous student work, which I was able to identify the strengths and weaknesses within their work, to help strengthen my own. I have also gained confidence and skills when using Photoshop, therefore, I was able to edit my photos professionally, compared to when I used the photos in my preliminary task, my photos for my final magazine are taken in a professional studio, with a digital SLR camera, and appropriate lighting. I could then edit my images on Photoshop, using the skills that I have learned when practising on Photoshop, which you can see in my blog, which I will also link to this post. After researching previous student work, I was able to acknowledge what makes a music magazine stand out and what is popular with my target audience, such as being able to identify which font would be most sutiable and professional, and how to edit/touch up any images to give them a more professional look, compared to my preliminary task which was much more amateur and only gave a basic structure of my magazine, which, overall after I had analysed other work, and current music magazines I changed the structure slightly such as the location of my cover lines, colour and fonts. In this post I will also link my prelimary task to show development. My contents page has also changed a lot since my prelimary task. After thorough research I had identified what makes a contents page unique and stand out to my target audience. I changed the layout of my images, list of contents and masthead. After having a lot of practice taking photos during my photoshoot, I was able to find the right style for my model and myself to work with whilst creating the images for my music magazine 'NOIZE' this allowed me to use my current knowlegde to create a professional image using angles, lighting and styling to suit my magazine. Although one thing I may change with my magazine if I were to repeat it would be to not make a lot of my images in black and white, and allow myself to experiment with other colours and themes, which may allow my magazine to stand out more using a wider variety of colours.

Evaluation- Question 1
In what ways does your music magazine use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of existing music magazines?
I have used templates of other magazines such as 'NME' to help me structure where to place my masthead, cover lines and main image for my front cover. I have placed my masthead at the top left of my front cover, similar to the layout of the 'NME' magazine I used to help me, which I have placed a image of this magazine on this post. Simliar to this magazine, I have used one image for my main image on my front cover, although my magazine my image covers the whole of the front page, with the masthead tucking behind the image and the coverlines overlapping the image. I have no other background but the colours of the image used to be the background for my front cover. I edited my frton cover image using photoshop allowing the backdrop to have a stronger colour. Although for my contents page, I have used four different images and have edited the background to be a 'N' which represents the main letter for 'NOIZE' making my magazine have a flowing theme as on the bottom right of both the contents page and the double page spread I have placed 'NOIZE' magazine next to the page number, creating a identity with the reader. I have also used the layout of this magazine to help me structure my contents page for my magazine. Although I have challenged where the images are placed, and allowed myself to have my own twist for my magazine, although using a popular music magazine as a main template and develop my ideas to create a professional magazine. I used this template from 'NME' magazine also, to help me create the layout for my magazine. Although on my double page spread on my magazine, I have placed my image on the left page and had my text surrounding the image on the right hand page, I was able to look at this double page spread as a template for my own. I had researched a few different double page spread, and used prevous student work to help me identify strengths and weaknesses for my double page spread. I also placed a pull quote on my double page spread, to allow my article to stand out more. I identified that on the 'NME' double page spread, the article stood out due to the style the masthead is written in, I decided to create my double page to stand out using a pull quote. Therefore, I have used existing conventions to help me develop my own music magazine, challenging them as I alter certain things on the page to create my own version, and using research I was able to apply my knowledge in order to create a professional and unique music magazine. Overall the one thing that I would wish to change if I done it again would be to not use black and white images as often, which may of allowed my magazine to stand out more, I would also change the style of the images I used for my contents page, as I found them a little amateur compared to the image used for my front cover.

Evaluation- Question 3
Chosen Institution
This video created using Animoto, shows a brief answer of my chosen institution to produce 'NOIZE' magazine. I have also linked in this post my full institution analysis to show my comparisons and research. I have chosen IPC to distribute my magazine as they already produce popular, mainstream magazines which are well known. I want my magazine to fit into this popular category, appealing to a wide audience, and IPC Media have experience producing popular magazines, which hopefully my magazine will be also.

Evaluation- Questions 2, 4 and 5
'How does your music magazine represent particular social group?'
As said in my Stupeflix video, my magazine represents a particular social group as it features exclusive interviews and news about the latest popular urban artists, with free gifts and competitions that would attract my audience, such as festival/concert tickets. The style of my magazine also reflects the social group that I am representing, it is very mainstream, and nothing too alternative is included in my magazine, as it aims to suit a wide mainstream audience.
'Who would be the audience for your music magazine?'
The audience for my magazine is a mainstream culture, including both genders but mostly aimed at young adults, as it includes popular urban artists, and competition chances that would best suit a younger audience, for example ages 15-late 20's.
'How did you attract your audience?'
I have incorporated these three questions together as I did not have a lot of information to provide about my social group which my magazine is aimed at due to the mainstream culture. On my blog I carried out a survey using, 'Survey Monkey' which allowed me to help target my audience with my magazine as I was able to find out exactly what they wanted from a music magazine. This allowed me to then look and compare my results to know what to include in my magazine and not to include. I will link the survey in this post.

Today, I have been constructing my front cover for my magazine, here I have screen printed me in my development of my front cover, showing how my photo has been edited that I have used for my front cover, and as I am adding and adjusting my masthead.
I have also began to edit my double page spread image, and beginning to scale it to the suitable size for my double page spread. I have used photo shop for both of these tasks.

Audience Research
I have designed a survey using the website 'Survey Monkey' in order to carry out research for my target market suitable for my genre of magazine. During this, I have provided certain questions such as, 'How often do you read magazines? to identify how popular magazines are amongst my target market. I also asked basic questions such as 'what is your age?' and 'what is your gender?'' to simply begin to identify my target market and which groups prefer certain things 'What is your favourite part of a chart music magazine?' to help me understand what specific age group and gender prefer certain genres of music and
their favourite part of a music magazine to help me create a magazine that would interest my target market. This magazine is aimed at young adults and both sexes. My magazine will feature popular R&B artists with exclusive interviews, photographs and eye catching stories.
I have handed out my survey to a small sample of both sexes and a variety of ages in order to help me determine what age groups prefer different items in a music magazine, enabling me to custom my magazine to the age group that my magazine is aimed to. After handing out my surveys to a small but varied sample of individuals, I was then able to calculate the
results of my survey, overall helping me to determine what I must do in order for my magazine to attract the attention of my target market, for example I have identified that many of my target market would appreciate free gifts to be featured in my magazine
and that exclusive interviews of popular music artists would also be a popular hit. I asked questions 'What other music magazines do you read?' in order to get a insight of what my target market like to read and what is featured in those magazines, to help give me a template of what my magazine should look like and include. I also asked what there preferred genre of music is, therefore I can help identify my target market, as I will be able to discover their age, gender and favourite genre music to know exactly who I am aiming my magazine at. I also asked how much my target market would be willing to pay for a magazine, therefore I can have a greater understanding about how to produce my magazine and which media platforms I will use to sell my magazine, therefore this question is a basic question to broaden my knowledge of producing my magazine.
Other questions such as 'what do you most like to see in a magazine?' and do you like receiving free gifts?' both help me understand what to include in my magazine and what is most popular in a magazine. Overall creating this survey has helped with my market research of what to include in my magazine and how to produce it, aiming it at my target audience which is young adult.

Today I began to create my survey on a website called 'Survey Monkey'. I was able to use this tool to set up questions that would help me to figure out what features in a magazine are best suited to my target market. I asked questions such as 'what is your favourite part of a chart music magazine?' I am hoping to hand this survey out to a small sample of both sexes and a range of ages to help determine what would be best to include in my magazine.

Font Pallette
I have researched some fonts which I find suitable for my magazine, titled 'NOIZE'. I used the website 'dafont' in order to experiment with a selection of font styles and I have listed them below.
I have chosen to keep my font basic, here I have experimented with a few basic black fonts which has helped me gain ideas for which font would be most suitable.

This is my chosen font which will be my masthead for my music magazine. I have chosen this font as it is very distinct, therefore allowing my reader's of the magazine to easily identify my magazine simply by the style of masthead, although the colour of this font will change for my front cover. This font is simple although stands out due to the dramatic underline and classic bold characters. I will use this font throughout my contents page and double page spread mastheads. This will allow me to maintain the same style throughout my magazine, although I have chosen second font which will be used for smaller text such as page numbers and my double page spread item.
This is the font that I will be using to write my double page
spread and also I will be using it to write smaller text such as page numbers and small sub headings. I have chose this font as it is very simple, although keeps in with the urban theme which my magazine has set. The colour of this font may also alter.
This is the font I have chosen for my cover lines and other larger text to be featured on my magazine. It is again a rather simplistic font, however it will be fitting in with the theme of my magazine, and it is not to dissimilar from my page number and writing font. This font will be featured throughout my magazine, where suitable. The colour of this font my also alter.
Here are my fonts that I gathered but I have decided not to use, due to the style of my magazine, these fonts would not be suitable to fit into my 'urban' theme, therefore I have disregarded them on that basis, but I have listed them below to show which fonts I disregarded.
I will not be using this font as I do not feel it has a 'urban' style which I desire for my magazine, and rather it would be more suitable for a rock magazine.

This is the same for this font, I feel that it would be more suited to a heavy metal magazine, due to the harsh style of writing, it would be best suited to a heavy metal magazine.
I feel that this font would be suitable for a urban themed magazine, however not the style of music that my magazine will be featuring, as it is written in a graffiti style as it is very bold.
This font will not be featured in my magazine as I feel it would be best suited to a pop magazine due to the very rounded lettering, and would not fit in with a urban theme that my magazine is creating.

Both of these fonts are very similar and I feel would work well in a rock/heavy metal magazine, due to the washed out paint appearance of the letters, giving it a very reckless feel.

Conventions,
Producer and Target Audience
The
conventions that I plan on keeping the same for my magazine are the main image,
that it will be covering the majority of my front cover, with the masthead
tucking behind my main image, as I have shown on my flat plan which I have
linked below; Front
Cover Flat Plan. Although as my cover lines are shown to be on the right
hand side, this may alter on my actual magazine by changing sides/position. The
colours used for my fonts will be changing on my actual magazine to suit the
style and colours of my images. Although my main image and masthead will be
remaining the same as I have shown on my flat plan. I will be altering my fonts
such as sizes, styling and colouring depending on my main image, I will be
updating my diary on my blog to show my textual development in order to suit my
image on the front cover, and throughout my magazine.
The
magazine publisher which I will be choosing to publish my magazine is IPC Media.
I have chosen this because they publish other popular mainstream magazines,
which my magazine will be. They also publish very popular magazines which a lot
of young people will recognize, I am hoping that my magazine will be a popular
magazine amongst young adults; therefore this magazine publisher has a lot of
experience publishing popular magazines for the youth. After having
researched other magazine publishers I think that this would be the most
suitable publisher for me to choose, due to my target market audience, who will
be young to late 20’s, which is similar to the readers of the magazines which
IPC publish. I have researched many other magazine publishers, which are
displayed on my blog on this following link; Instituion
Research. This helps show why I have chosen IPC Media to produce my
music magazine, due to the target market and popularity among my
target market, it would be the best suited publisher for my magazine.
My
target market is young adults (age 15-25), and of both sexes. The interests of
my target market would be R&B music, shopping for popular clothing brands,
interested in the latest trends and gossip. My magazine will be relatively main
stream including popular trends and artists, which will attract my target
market. I have carried out a survey which helped me to determine what
features to include in my magazine to aim at my target market, which I have
linked; Survey.
Here I have provided the questions and statistics that I gathered from using
this survey.
The
Media platforms that would sell my magazine would be places such as WH Smiths,
due to my magazine being rather mainstream it would be available at large
convenience stores. I will also make my magazine available online, providing
weekly updates and extras for my reader, as it is aimed at young adults,
technology is popular during this generation, therefore my magazine could be
easily accessed via Iphone or Ipad, allowing me to target my audience quickly
and easily. Large convenience stores would be willing to sell my product due to
the large target audience, as it is a main stream magazine and not specialized
or alternative, it would be appealing to a larger audience as it features
popular music artists, therefore selling it in a popular convenience store
would help boost my sales and recognition.
Photo Shoot Images
This image will feature on my contents page, I will edit the hue/saturation, brightness/contrast in order to suit my contents page. I take this image with another friend in a photography studio, my model was briefed and styled accordingly.
This image may be featured on my contents page, as I do not wish to have the same model throughout all of my magazine. I will edit this image using photo shop adjusting the hue/saturation brightness and contrast to make this image appear more professional.
Each of these images are potential main images for my double page spread article. I am using the same model from my front cover and contents page to be featured in a exclusive interview for my double page spread. I may be using a full length shot image for my double page spread, as it is a different camera angle used compared to my contents page and my front cover, as they were using mid shot and a close up. Here I have listed a few images which I may use.
